“En pocos años ha pasado de ser un completo desconocido a colocarse en lo más alto del panorama internacional. El venir de un país como Letonia no ha sido inconveniente para atreverse a competir, e incluso ganar a grandes patinadores; hasta el punto de haber ganado el premio “ONE” al patinador del año 2011, siendo el único europeo de los 10 nominados finales.

Cuando patina, ya sea en un vídeo, calle o competición, nunca deja indiferente a nadie. Siempre tiene un trucazo que sorprende al que lo ve. Un claro ejemplo fue la pasada Winterclash, donde no dudó en lanzarse al probar un Disaster AO topsoul o 540 AO Pornstar entre otros, que le sirvieron para llevarse un merecidísimo segundo puesto.

Denis – ¿Cómo fueron tus comienzos como patinador?
Empecé gracias a mi hermano, Martins Jansons, hace más o menos 11 años. Entonces sólo se trataba de patinar con él y mis amigos en mi patio, algo divertido que hacía que me enfocará en algo y aprendiera cosas nuevas. Nunca imaginé que estaría en la situación en la que estoy ahora. Amigos y patines nada más, nada de cámaras y ninguna necesidad de cualquier otra cosa.

Denis – ¿Cuéntanos cómo es un día normal en la vida de Nils?
Primero de todo dormir bien jajaja! Luego salir a patinar o ver a mi novia y  salir a hacer alguna cosa. Normalmente, no sé lo que voy a estar haciendo al día siguiente.

Denis – ¿En algún momento de tu carrera como patinador has pensado en dejar de patinar?
Nunca. Últimamente he estado más centrado en descubrir nuevas maneras de patinar y dándome cuenta de que realmente no hay límites, así que sé que nunca me cansaré de patinar.

Pollo – ¿A lo largo de tu carrera, has tenido alguna lesión realmente importante?
Durante 4 años seguidos me lesiono algo justo antes de verano. Puede que sea una buena señal, para no motivarme demasiado  jaja! Tras mi última lesión de tobillo en la Ponycup ya estoy de nuevo sobre los patines. El año pasado también tuve algo en el tobillo grabando para el video de GC y estuve lesionado 2 meses. Estas cosas pasan y nunca sabes cuando te tocará.

Denis – ¿Cuándo no patinas a qué más dedicas tu vida?
Básicamente estar con mi novia que es una pasada. También intento hacer algo en nuestra escena roller local. Intentar hacer algo nuevo, lo que sea que no se haya hecho antes, para que el día valga para algo. Mirar películas. Esquiar durante el invierno. Hacer sonreír a la gente. También debería empezar a hacer algo para conseguir algo de dinero jaja! Y el año que viene empiezo la universidad.

Uribe – Acabas de ser elegido patinador del año One, siendo el único europeo que optaba al galardón. ¿Crees qué es justo que solo haya un europeo? ¿Qué significa para ti este premio?
Creo que si que ha sido justo debido a que han sido votaciones a través de la red, eso significa que patinadores de todo el mundo han podido decidir quien era su favorito. Fue una locura verme la cara entre otros 9 pros norteamericanos jajaja! Próximamente vamos a tener un edit con el trofeo de ONE y salgo hablando sobre el premio, así que todo el mundo podrá ver como me siento por ello. Realmente no creo que lo mereciera, pero estoy muy contento por ello. Es como hacer un sueño realidad demasiado rápido jaja! Atentos al edit.

Uribe – Fuiste elegido como el Fans favourite de la WRS con tu edit. ¿Crees qué se resolvió bien este año la WRS? ¿Hubo claridad en todo momento?
Gracias. Mi hermano hizo un gran trabajo grabando y editando, como siempre. Sí, creo que todo fue totalmente claro. Estoy muy contento que todos disfrutaran de mi edit, era todo lo que quería para ese concurso, quería que todo el mundo viera un tipo de patinaje que es espectacular.

Denis – Desde un punto de vista personal eres uno de los patinadores, a nivel internacional, que produce una gran cantidad de edits de gran calidad en todos los aspectos. ¿Qué te motiva a producir tanto material? ¿Tu hermano ha sido un gran apoyo para ello?
Sí, mi hermano ha estado haciéndome edits desde el primero que publiqué, es el mejor videógrafo que conozco. Debo darle todas las gracias, porque sin estos edits no estaría donde estoy tan rápido. Esta es la mejor manera de poner tu nombre en la escena internacional si vienes de un pequeño país que nadie conoce, hacer buena media y hacer que el público disfrute alrededor del mundo. Mi hermano y yo sabemos como hacerlo. Mi motivación es hacer mejores edits cada vez. Es lo mismo que me motiva para patinar, saber que algo siempre puede estar mejor hecho, nunca llegará a estar perfecto.

540º ao pornstar en la Winterclash – Secuencia por Pollo

Pollo- Siempre que te vemos competir o en algún video, haces algún truco realmente increíble. ¿Qué es lo que te motiva en ese momento para hacerlos?
Solamente saber que un truco puede ser más grande y mejor cada vez. En la Winterclash caí un 540º ao pornstar, lo cual quiere decir que puedo hacer 540º ao topsoul en ese spot, sólo que aún no lo se hacer jaja!  Y también la indescriptible sensación de caer algo realmente toch; nada sienta mejor.

Uribe -¿Crees qué el patinaje europeo tiene algo que envidiarle al americano?
No lo creo, simplemente es diferente, ninguno es mejor que el otro. Pienso que en Europa hay más variedad; las escenas, los spots y la gente, resumiendo todo. En Europa hay una gran variedad de países con diferentes culturas y tipos de spots, eso no lo encuentras en Estados Unidos. Mola USA pero no tenemos nada que envidiarles.

Uribe – ¿Has patinado alguna vez en alguna competición de USA? ¿Les dan ventaja a los patinadores americanos en las competiciones de su continente?
Solamente competí una vez, en la SDSF de 2008 y no observé ningún tipo de favoritismo. Todo fue justo a mi parecer, aunque la verdad es que no puedo hablar mucho de esto porque no sé.

Disaster ao topsoul en la Winterclash – Secuencia por Pollo

Pollo – ¿Qué se siente al haber llegado tan lejos tan joven?
Hace bastante que patino, tratando de mejorar año tras año; y el esfuerzo del año pasado fue compensado en todo. No sabía que quería conseguir exactamente, pero sabía que quería dar a conocer mi nombre y eso me llegó en el mejor momento. Sabía que me llegaría en algún momento sólo que no sabía cuando; me centraba en dar lo mejor de mí, pensando en positivo, sin pensar en la fama o cualquier otra cosa hasta que el universo me lo dio. Me siento muy bien por ello, no necesito concentrarme en dar a conocer más mi nombre, ahora sólo me centro en mi patinaje, mejorando para que todo el mundo deje de hablar mierda y únicamente puedan amarlo.

Uribe – Franky Morales acaba de fichar por USD y CJ Wellsmore parece que también ha tomado otro rumbo. ¿Esto te da más posibilidades de promocionar en Remz?
No importa eso realmente. A mi me encantaba que Franky estuviera en Remz y es triste que se haya ido, pero si es mejor para él lo entiendo. El team de Remz siempre ha tenido los mejores miembros, pero si Franky se va no significa que sea más débil. Se pondrá más fuerte que nunca y yo seguiré con Remz por muchos años. Yo sigo a mi rollo y si otro cambia sus sponsors a mi no me afectará en nada. Promocionaré Remz como pueda y patinaré para ellos, he estado en contacto con Kato durante bastante tiempo, así que las cosas siguen como siempre han estado hasta el momento esté como esté el team, no importa quien venga o se vaya.

Denis – ¿En algún momento Kato te ha propuesto subir de categoría en Remz?
Las cosas con Remz están yendo muy bien y algo cambiará muy pronto, ya os daréis cuenta jaja!

Pollo – Hedonskate es uno de tus mayores sponsors, e igual que tú en los últimos años se ha dado mucho a conocer internacionalmente. ¿Te han ayudado mucho a llegar donde estás? ¿Y tú a ellos?
¡Hedonskate es lo mejor que hay! ¡Mirek de Hedonskate es el mejor! Gracias a él he conseguido casi todos mis otros sponsors, así que estoy contentísimo de haber fichado por Hedonskate hace muchos años. Sabía que era una buena señal. Y sí, darme a conocer me ha dado la posibilidad de esparcir el buen trabajo de Hedonskate por todo el mundo. Les apoyo a ellos y ellos me apoyan a mí. Apoyad a los que apoyan. Denis – ¿Qué te pareció Barcelona en tu visita del pasado verano? ¿Te gustaron los spots? ¿Si patinaste con gente de Barcelona cómo viste su nivel?
Barcelona es una pasada, definitivamente voy a volver muy pronto. Estuve una semana ahí, que me supo a poco por las posibilidades que ofrece. Los spots, el tiempo, mmmm… Patiné con Enanoh lo que fue increíble y realmente es un tío muy guay. No creo que haya ningún patinador que no haya disfrutado de su visita a Barcelona; ¡es una pasada!

Uribe -Tu sección del GC.1 es la que abre el DVD. Háblanos un poco de la grabación de tu profile, alguna anécdota y cuánto tiempo te llevó.
Pasé una semana en Barcelona grabando para la película con Simon Mulvaney y lo demás lo grabé en Riga (Letonia) con mi hermano. Quería grabar más cosas tochas, pero me lesioné el tobillo cuando intentaba la barandilla con caída más peligrosa que he probada, creo que sale en la sección de caídas. Así que la grabación acabó antes de lo deseado. El resultado ha sido bastante bueno, pero sé que podría haberlo hecho mejor. En definitiva fue una gran experiencia poder pasar una semana en Barcelona con toda esa gente. Sólo esperad a mi próxima sección que será mejor y más tocha espectacular, seguramente en el dvd de BHC.

Uribe -¿Qué podemos esperar de Nils para este 2012? ¿Algún sponsor nuevo, promodel o sección?
Aún ni lo sé, lo mejor me llega cuando no me lo espero. Hace poco Shima me pidió formar parte del team de rodamientos King Crow, lo que está muy bien. Sólo seguid atentos porque prometo no dejar de dar caña.

Denis – How were your first steps as a skater?
I started because of my brother (Martins Jansons) about 11 years ago. Then it was just skating with him and my friends at my backyard, just a fun thing that made me focus on something new and learn new shit. Never knew I would be where I’m now. It was just friends and blades then, no cameras and no need for anything else.

Denis – What is a normal day in your life like?
First have a good sleep haha! then go blade or meet up with my girl and just try to do something fresh. Usually I don’t know where I’m gonna end up tomorrow.

Denis – In any moment of your career have you seriously thought of quitting?
Never. I have got more into it by discovering different types of skating and just realizing that there are no limits so I’m sure that I will never get sick of it.

Pollo – Have you been injured really bad in this time?
For past 4 years I fuck up something just before summer. Maybe that’s a good sign, so I don’t get too fast into it haha! Now I´m already back on skates from ankle injury that I got at Ponycup. Year before I fucked up ankle while filming for GC video for about two months. Shit happens and you never know when.

Denis – What do you do when your not skating?
Mostly hang out with my awesome girl. Try to do something for our local blading community. Trying to do something that haven’t done before whatever it is so I can make every day count. Watch movies. Skiing during winter. Make people smile. But should start doing something that would make me some money haha! University next year!

Uribe – You have just got elected One Skater of the Year despite you were the only european. Do you think it was fair to only have one skater from Europe in the election? What does this award mean to you?
It was fair because it was online voting and every blader from whole wide world could vote for his favourite. It felt crazy when I saw my face between 9 other pros from US. Haha! We’ll have an edit with the ONE trophy and me talking about it, so then everyone will see how i feel about it. But I definitely don’t think that I deserved it, but I´m happy as fuc*. Like my dream coming true too fast hahaha! Stay tuned for the edit.

Uribe – You were also the winner of 2011 WRS Fans favorite with an incredible edit. Do you think the finals were resolved well? Was everything clear?
Thanks. My brother did great job with editing and filming as always. I think everything was totally clear. I’m just happy about everyone who enjoyed my edit. That’s all I wanted to do for the comp, I wanted people to see what kind of blading is the shit.

Denis – From my personal point of view you are one of the international skaters that comes up with very good media in quite a bit amount. What motivates you to do so many good edits? Does your brother help you a lot in this?
Yes, my brother have been making edits for me since my first edit. He’s is the best videographer I know. I need to say big thanks to him, because without these edits I wouldn’t be where I’m now so fast. That’s the best way to get your name out there if you come from small country that no one knows about, make great media work and make people enjoy it from whole world and me and my brother know how to do it. My motivation is to make better and better edit every time. The same thing that motivates my skating, knowing that you can always get better and do it better and you can never get too good.

Pollo – When we see you in some edit or competition you always manage to pull some impressive hammers down. What’s your motivation in those moments to do them?
Just to do it bigger and better every time. I laced 540º ao porn at the Clash, which means I can do 540º ao topsoul there, but I just don’t know yet haha! And just the indescribable feeling you get when you land a hammer, nothing feels better.

Uribe – Do you think skating in Europe has anything to be jealous about in comparison to America?
I don’t think so. It’s just different US and EU, but no one is better in any way. I think in Europe everything has more variety. The skating scenes and the spots and the people, everything. There’s so many countries with different cultures and spot types, that you can’t find in US. US is awesome, but we don’t have anything to be jealous about.

Uribe – Have you ever skated any competition in USA? Do judges give advantage to skaters from there continent?
Just once at SDSF in 2008, but didn’t notice anything like that. It was a fair contest I think. But can’t speak about this much because I don’t know.

Pollo – You are very young but still have accomplished a lot in skating. How do you feel about this?
I’ve been skating for a while, trying to get better and better every year. And past year it all payed off, all the hard work and everything. Didn’t know what exactly I wanted to archive, but I knew I wanted to get my name out there, and it just came when it came at the right time, I knew it would happen at one point, but didn’t know when, so I was just doing my best, thinking positive, not thinking of fame or anything till universe got it for me. I feel great about it, I don’t need to focus on getting my name known anymore, I just focus on my blading now and I will improve it so everyone I mean everyone can shut up with shit talk and just love it.

Uribe – - Franky Morales just signed with USD and it looks like CJ Wellsmore also took a new way. Is this good for you to promote inside the Remz team?
It doesn’t matter. I loved that Franky was on Remz and it’s sad that he left, but if it’s better for him I understand. Remz team has always been with the sickest guys, but if Franky leaves it doesn’t mean that’s it’s weaker. It will just get stronger than ever and I’ll just keep shreading with Remz like I’ve been doing it for many years. I´m just doing my thing and if anyone else changes his sponsors it doesn’t affect me at all. I’ll skate and promote remz anyway and I’ve been in touch with Kato for long. So it’s just the same as it was, things are going up no matter who leaves or joins the team.

Denis – Has Kato in any moment proposed you to level up in the Remz team?
Things are going really good with Remz, and yeah something should change very soon, you’ll notice when it happens. haha!!

Pollo – Hedonskate shop is one of your most important sponsors. In the last years, as the same with you it has become pretty popular internationally. Have they helped you a lot in this popularity? Have you helped them?
Hedonskate is the best shit out there!!! Mirek from Hedonskate is the MAN!! He have helped me to get most of the other sponsors, so I´m supper happy that I got picked up by Hedonskate many years ago. I knew it was good sign. And yeah, since I’ve got my name out there I can spread the good word about Hedonskate world wide. I support them and they support me. Support supporters. Love the bladers fuck the haters.

Denis – You got to visit Barcelona last summer. What do you think about this city? Did you
enjoy the spots? Did you get to skate with any local skaters?
Barcelona is just awesome, I´m definitely going back there soon. I spent just week there, which was definitely too less for what it’s got to offer. The spots, weather, mmmm… yes I skated with Enanoh which was awesome and he’s really cool guy. I don’t think that there’s any blader who hasn’t enjoyed Barcelona. It’s awesome!!

Uribe – Your profile in GC.1 is the first section in the DVD. Talk us a little bit about the filming
you did for it, how much time did it take and something weird or funny that happened.
I spent week in Barcelona filming for it with Simon and then like the other stuff we got here in Latvia, Riga with my brother. I wanted to get some more hammers, but I fucked up my ankle trying to kill steepest droprail I’ve ever tried. I think you can see it in bails section!! So filming ended sooner than I wanted. The result was pretty good, but I knew that I could have done it better. But definitely it was awesome to spend week with super cool guys in Barcelona. Wait for my next part which should be better and bigger, I think that will be in BHC dvd.

Uribe – What can we wait from Nils in 2012? Any new sponsor, promodel or section coming
out?
I don’t even know yet, because best things happen when I’m not even expecting them. Recently Shima asked me to ride for his new bearing company King Crow, which is pretty awesome. Just stay tuned, because I promise that I won’t stop killing shit.
